Their rotating line-up includes drums, two bassists, keyboards, harp, violin, cello, two tenors, alto, oboe, flute and percussion, combined with a similar sized choir of friends from Brighton joining us. The music “drinks deep from the well of spiritual jazz, and is especially inspired by the soulful sounds of Pharoah Sanders, Alice and John Coltrane, (Bandcamp liner notes).\nThe Maria Schneider Orchestra was once called Maria Schneider JAZZ Orchestra. But she changed it so that people wouldn’t come to the music with expectations of a certain style. Listen to some of Schneider’s work from her her Grammy-winning 2020 double album, Data Lords. There’s work by drummer/composer/bandleader Allison Miller inspired by five major rivers of the Northeast United States, and the River Keepers who work on their maintenance. One of her tunes evokes a train ride up the Hudson River, and features violinist Jenny Scheinman. Then, hear music for octet from bassist/composer Todd Sickafoose, from his latest release, Bear Proof, which features many of the same players as in Miller’s chamber jazz record.\nPlus, music by the double bassist-led chamber jazz group, Cordâme from Canada; and work by Serbian quartet EYOT, who deal in a swirling mix of traditional Balkan folk music, jazz, and art-rock. That, and more. - Caryn Havlik\nProgram #4825, Chamber Jazz (First aired 12/11/2023)\nARTIST: Todd SickafooseWORK: The Gold Gate [1:00]RECORDING: Bear ProofSOURCE: Secret Hatch RecordsINFO: toddsickafoose.bandcamp.com\nARTIST: Allison MillerWORK: Hudson [5:03]RECORDING: Rivers In Our VeinsSOURCE: Royal Potato FamilyINFO: allisonmiller.bandcamp.com\nARTIST: Paul Winter ConsortWORK: Icarus [3:04]RECORDING: IcarusSOURCE: Epic Records/ Living MusicINFO: paulwinter.bandcamp.com\nARTIST: Todd SickafooseWORK: The Gold Gate [5:18]RECORDING: Bear ProofSOURCE: Secret Hatch RecordsINFO: toddsickafoose.bandcamp.com\nARTIST: EYOTWORK: Drifters [8:42]RECORDING: quindecennialSOURCE: Neuklang | due out Feb. 2024INFO: eyotmusic.net\nARTIST: Ancient Infinity OrchestraWORK: Rejoicing [6:29]RECORDING:  River of LightSOURCE: Gondwana RecordsINFO: gondwanarecords.com\nARTIST: Maria Schneider OrchestraWORK: A World Lost, excerpt [2:37]RECORDING: Data Lords - 2 record setSOURCE: ArtistShareINFO: mariaschneider.com/home/albuminfo?id=1083\nARTIST: CordâmeWORK: Migration [6:31]RECORDING: MigrationSOURCE: DAMEINFO: cordame.bandcamp.com"}
