This is something we have been discussing for a while, but not as loudly as we wanted. So, we now are digging deeper and sharing this important conversation with you today.
\r\n
\r\nTune in today to hear how words can create our reality, rather than reality creating our chosen words. We also share how our language is used and how this has been a life-long process for us.
\r\n
\r\nAccording to an article in Psychology Today, from 2012 researchers have found that you need to replace every negative thought with at least 5 positive thoughts to counteract the effect on the brain.
\r\n
\r\nThe good news is that our thought patterns are habits, and habits can be changed.
\r\n
\r\nWe can rewire our brains, and our entire existence by changing the language we use to talk to ourselves and the people around us.
\r\n
\r\nWe can acknowledge the negative thoughts by saying no thank you and releasing.
\r\n
\r\nWe can also acknowledge the critical thoughts and use a mantra to help refocus on positive thoughts.
\r\n
\r\nLanguage also impacts culture, both on a micro and macro level which we get into today.
\r\n
\r\nHow do you speak to your family?
\r\n
\r\nHow do you interact with your friends?
\r\n
\r\nOnce we key ourselves in to listening for the repetition of certain words, phrases, or ways of speaking about ourselves and the world it becomes much easier, but it is an active process not passive.
\r\n
\r\nMENTIONED IN THE SHOW
\r\n
\r\n\"A broken bone can heal, but the wound a word opens can fester forever.\"
\r\n
\r\nJessamyn West
\r\n
\r\n\"If we understood the power of our thoughts, we would guard them more closely. If we understood the awesome power of our words, we would prefer silence to almost anything negative. In our thoughts and words, we create our own weaknesses and our own strengths. Our limitations and joys begin in our hearts. We can always replace negative with positive.\"
\r\n
\r\nBetty Eadie
\r\n
\r\n“By holding a positive and optimistic [word] in your mind, you stimulate frontal lobe activity. This area includes specific language centers that connect directly to the motor cortex responsible for moving you into action. And as our research has shown, the longer you concentrate on positive words, the more you begin to affect other areas of the brain.”
\r\n
\r\nNewburg, Waldman
\r\n
\r\nGO BOLDLY HOMEWORK
\r\n
\r\nStart listening to your inner monologue more closely for negative framing and words. Start also listening to how you talk to other people about yourself. Are you repeatedly critical? Are you making yourself smaller?
\r\n
\r\nKeep a notebook handy where you can write down the negative and limiting thoughts.
\r\n
\r\nPick one word or phrase from the list that you made and focus in on that specifically.
\r\n
\r\nThink about words like can’t, only, just, and always.
\r\n
\r\nYou may find that you are noticing other people’s negativity now too. Probably not the best time to point it out.
\r\n
\r\nOnce you have that word use the tools we talked about today, or any of the suggestions in the further reading to work towards removing it from your lexicon.
\r\n
\r\nRESOURCES MENTIONED IN THE SHOW
\r\n
\r\nDid you enjoy this episode?
